Services:
Walk-In Unit: This program provides services to those individuals who are able to leave their homes. The primary focus is on crisis intervention with clients receiving assistance and advocacy in dealing with issues such as tenant/landlord disputes, food and shelter, abuse and neglect as well as financial management and health care.

Homebound Unit: The unit provides comprehensive services to the community's most isolated elderly so they can remain in their homes. Through home visits, the staff assists clients through unique programs such as benefits assistance, daily money management and end-of-life planning. Supportive counseling is also provided in the home, as well as referral to other services such as visiting nurses, delivered meals and home care.

Carter Burden Luncheon Club and Senior Program: The unit provides comprehensive services to the community's most isolated elderly so they can remain in their homes. Through home visits, the staff assists clients through unique programs such as benefits assistance, daily money management and end-of-life planning. Supportive counseling is also provided in the home, as well as referral to other services such as visiting nurses, delivered meals and home care.

C.V. Starr Adult Day Services: In collaboration with the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale, the program offers a recreational and therapeutic day for older adults who are experiencing memory loss. Unlike other Burden Center programs, we can accept clients from the entire metropolitan area. Participants have opportunities for social, recreational and educational activities, which promote physical well-being, intellectual stimulation and social interaction. Round-trip transportation is available for clients within certain areas of Manhattan.

Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP): MMAP is a collaborative project with the Medicare Rights Center to reduce problems older New Yorkers face in obtaining Medicare and/or Medicaid benefits. A specialist working in the Carter Burden Center is available to provide counseling and representation to individuals. We can also arrange on-site visits to various senior centers in the area.

Community Elder Mistreatment & Abuse Prevention Program (CEMAPP): CEMAPP combats elder abuse by assisting victims and providing community education programs in the expanded geographical area of central and northern Manhattan. This innovative program, a collaboration between the Carter Burden Center and One Stop Senior Servicess, assits individuals and families who reside above 59th Street, from the East River to the Hudson River.

Cultural Connections: This unique program provides seniors with opportunities to participate in the artistic and cultural life of the city by offering a diverse program of collective experiences throughout the year at discounted prices. Events include classical music, Broadway/Off Broadway plays and musicals, jazz and museum tours -- the backbone of traditional American culture. Our cultural events are specifically designed for our participants and anyone over 60 is welcome to join us. Current events and reviews are listed on our website.

Volunteer Services for the Elderly of Yorkville: Each year, approximately 1200 individuals volunteer their time, energy and expertise to assist our older neighbors. We offer both long-term and one-time opportunities in order to welcome volunteers from all walks of life, from busy professionals to families to neighborhood seniors themselves looking to give back to the community.

Eligibility, including Geographic Areas Served:
Ages 60 and over. Service area: 57th to 96th Street, from Fifth Avenue to the East River.
