Services:

DOROT is a partnership of professionals, volunteers and seniors dedicated to enhancing the lives of the elderly. DOROT enables older people to maintain their independence and live with dignity in their own homes for as long as possible. Our programs provide food, housing, education and companionship to seniors and their caregivers and bring the generations together.

In-Home Services:
Kosher Meals for the Homebound supplies frail elders with weekly deliveries of nutritious frozen kosher meals, and telephone reassurance. The program’s emergency service delivers meals to elders in urgent need.

Friendly Visiting recruits, trains and matches volunteers with elders for weekly visits and provides ongoing social work support.

Holiday Package Deliveries sends volunteers to visit seniors, bringing packages of traditional foods.

The Thanksgiving Banquet and Meal Delivery hosts elders at a festive banquet and delivers meals to the homebound.

On the Phone: Information, Referral, and Case Assistance provides help and guidance to elders, their families and friends, volunteers, and the public.

University Without Walls offers weekly conference call classes and support groups to promote education and socialization, and is available in English and Russian.

To Your Health provides information on health and wellness topics and offers support groups for people with chronic illnesses over the telephone.

Caregivers’ Connections provides telephone support groups and informational workshops for those caring for an elderly loved one.

On-Site Programs
The Wellness Program offers a wide variety of classes at DOROT and includes exercise, nutrition, relaxation, and meditation.

A support group for caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients meets twice monthly.

Shopping & Escorting: Escorts provide assistance with getting to and from medical appointments and take seniors shopping. They also shop for seniors unable to leave their homes.

Cemetery Visits offers elders volunteer escorts and transportation to New York Metropolitan Area cemeteries.

Homeless Services: Homelessness Prevention Program houses homeless elders in a supportive transitional setting with congregate meals, life-skills training, counseling and assistance in procuring benefits, and relocates them to safe, affordable permanent housing. “Aftercare” continues to give support to resettled elders, and helps to prevent the recurrence of homelessness.

Volunteer Services: Our volunteer department offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for adults, families, teens and college students; intergenerational programs are available for groups of all ages, including families, schools, and corporate volunteers.
