At Home with Dementia, by Design: Adapting This Home for Safety and Well-BeingIn this presentation, you will tour ThisCaringHome.org, a multimedia website that features best practices and home safety tips for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. Learn about evidence based solutions to everyday caregiving problems and smart home technologies that enhance safety and well-being. ThisCaringHome.org is the proud recipient of the 2010 NAC MetLife National Alzheimer’s Recognition Award.
Speaker
Rosemary Bakker, MSRosemary Bakker, MS, is a gerontologist, a certified interior designer, and a leader in the field of design and home safety for people with dementia. During the last fifteen years, Ms. Bakker has assumed a national and local leadership role in promoting the role of the environment to optimize the health, function, and well being of older adults. Rosemary has engaged in real-life testing of over 50 household and technology products, from grab-bar fastening systems to fall monitors, environmental controls, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Ms Bakker is on academic staff at the Weill Cornell Medical College in the Division of Geriatrics.
