Reeva Mager called the meeting to order at 3:35pm and welcomed the group. She thanked Carter Burden staff for hosting this event. Approximately 35 members were present.

Announcements:

Mary Dodd of Carter Burden Center for the Aging, Inc. announced their Open House, which will be held on March 19, 2009 at 1484 First Avenue (between 78th and 79th Streets). The time is from 3-5pm. RSVP’s are not required. For additional information, the number is 212-879-7400.

Barbara Friesner of Age Wise Living announced her new syndicated radio show on Air America. It will start on May 5th. For more information, go to Barbara’s web site, (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Presentation:

Elaine Quigley, founder of Metro ElderCare Agency, started her organization in 1995. She assists family members with nursing home and home care applications as well as annuities, insurance, and addressing long term care needs. She explained the diversity of options available to the elderly and how professional help can be useful. Elaine described the complex process of applying for care, and discussed Medicaid eligibility. Elaine said that her goal is to encourage family members to know what questions to ask and to preserve assets.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 PM.
