Letter from the ESCOTA Board Chair
May 2007
Dear ESCOTA Members and Friends:
The East Side Council of the Aging is proud to present the 2007 ESCOTA Directory. I am especially pleased to welcome the new members that have joined ESCOTA this year and to welcome back former members. Together we are the most informative and dynamic organization of professionals dedicated to helping seniors on the east side of Manhattan.
Our programs continue to be on the cutting edge of issues that affect the elderly. This past year the scope of our programs varied from learning about medical care in world cities to the bed bug epidemic in New York City. We were educated about updates on Medicare Part D and given concrete information to help our clients navigate this complex benefit.
We received on overview of the U.S Administrationís position on the future of aging and were enlightened on what the elderly can teach us. Lessons learned from them enhance our clinical practice. Especially useful, and not just related to the elderly, was an exciting presentation on crime prevention. The baby boomer generation will be the elderly of the future; the program on ethical issues of working with older adults and their families provided a framework for this.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank our speakers for sharing their expertise and generously devoting their time to ESCOTA. I appreciate the hospitality that our hosts have offered us throughout the year. I also want to thank the ESCOTA membership for the incredible work they do. During my years as Chair I have had the good fortune to get to know many of you individually and have greatly enjoyed our discussions.
The excellence of ESCOTA could not be achieved without the strength of the Board. Iíd like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Officers of the Board. It is inspiring to work along side you.
Sincerely,
 Mary Beaudet, LCSW Chair, 2005-2008
